HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY IN REDLANDS CALIFORNIA

WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY?

Balancing and optimizing hormone levels can provide numerous health benefits, including stronger bones and muscles, better sleep, fat loss, improved cognition, relief from anxiety and depression, and enhanced libido and sexual wellness. At HMA, we use bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) to optimize your hormone levels and improve your overall wellness.

You will meet with our functional medicine physician to discuss your health concerns, undergo a health assessment, and have an extensive set of labs ordered. Following your lab work, you’ll have a comprehensive evaluation where you and your physician will determine if hormone replacement therapy is right for you.

WHY CHOOSE HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY?

As you age, your body’s hormone production naturally declines, which can increase the risk of weak muscles and bones, fractures, cardiovascular disease, and memory loss.

Hormone replacement therapy offers numerous benefits, including heart protection, increased energy, improved sleep, relief from anxiety and depression, support in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight and body fat percentage, enhanced memory and cognition, and boosted libido.

When combined with a balanced diet and regular exercise, hormone therapy can be a powerful tool to help you look and feel your best.

FEMALE PELLET IN REDLANDS CALIFORNIA

Bio-identical hormone pellets are concentrated hormones, biologically identical to the hormones you make in your own body prior to menopause. Estrogen and Testosterone were made in your ovaries and adrenal gland prior to menopause. Bio -identical hormones affect your body the same way your own estrogen and testosterone did at a younger age, without the inconsistencies in levels dues to menstrual cycles.

Bio-identical hormone pellets are compounded and are FDA monitored but not approved for female hormonal replacement. The pellet method of hormone replacement therapy has been used in Europe and Canada for many years and by select OB/GYN physicians in the United States.

Patients who are not sterilized and not menopausal are advised to continue reliable birth control while participating in pell et
hormonal replacement therapy. Testosterone is category X (will cause birth defects) and cannot be given to pregnant women.

MALE PELLET IN REDLANDS CALIFORNIA

Form Bio-identical testosterone pellets are concentrated, compounded hormone, biologically identical to the testosterone that is made in your own body. Testosterone was made in your testicles prior to “andropause.” Bio-identical hormones have the same effects on your body as your own testosterone did when you were younger. Bio-identical hormone pellets are made from plants and are FDA approved for men for the treatment of andropause as hormonal replacement. The pellet method of hormone replacement has been used in Europe and Canada since the 1930’s and by select doctors in the United States, such as Dr. Gambrell and Dr. Lobo, both Endocrine/Gynecologists. Your risks are similar to those of any testosterone replacement but may be lower risk. During andropause, the risk of not receiving adequate hormone therapy can equal the risks of replacing testosterone with pellets.

Risks of not receiving testosterone therapy after andropause include: Arteriosclerosis, elevation of cholesterol, obesity, loss of strength and stamina, generalized aging, osteoporosis, mood disorders, depression, arthritis, loss of libido, erectile dysfun ction, loss of skin tone and many other symptoms of aging.

Testosterone pellet therapy is generally suggested for you after traditional methods for replacement have failed or because you seek a more physiologic treatment for andropause.

FAQ

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) involves hormones that are structurally identical to those produced naturally by your body.

At HMA, we use BioTE pellets, which are small, hormone-infused pellets implanted under the skin in the subcutaneous (fatty) tissue. These pellets release a steady, controlled amount of hormones over time.

Our board-certified physicians and nurse practitioners are here to answer any questions you may have about hormone therapy and to guide you through the process.

Absolutely! Contrary to popular belief, testosterone is not exclusive to men; in fact, it is the most abundant hormone in women throughout their lives.

As we age, testosterone levels naturally decline. Optimizing these levels can help protect your heart and bones, boost your energy, aid in fat loss and weight management, and enhance your sex drive and overall sexual wellness.

At HMA we use BioTE pellets to optimize your hormone levels through a straightforward in-office procedure.

The only potentially uncomfortable part of the process is the insertion of the needle to numb the area where the pellets will be placed. If you have a fear of needles, please let us know. We offer comfort measures, including numbing medication and topical spray, to help ease any discomfort.

While some patients may experience minor soreness around the pellet placement site, this usually resolves within a few days. If you experience any pain during the procedure, inform your provider so that we can address your needs with additional comfort measures.

There is no upper age limit for how long you can be on hormone replacement therapy.

For women using BioTE pellet BHRT, the pellets typically release hormones for about 3-4 months. After this period, you’ll need to have additional pellets placed to maintain optimal wellness.

For men using BioTE pellet BHRT, the pellets usually provide steady hormone levels for approximately 5-6 months. At this point, you will need to have more pellets inserted to continue optimizing your wellness.

BioTE hormone pellets are roughly the size of a grain of rice. Occasionally, you might feel the pellets under your skin due to swelling, which typically resolves within a few days, though it can rarely last up to a month.

To minimize swelling and promote healing, it is important for women to limit their activity for 3 days following pellet placement and for men to do the same for 7 days.

BioTE hormone pellets gradually dissolve and eventually disappear. Because they fully dissolve, there is no need for removal. However, as the pellets dissolve, you may notice a return of symptoms, signaling that it’s time for new pellets to be placed.
Scientific research indicates that hormone therapy can offer protective benefits for the heart, breasts, bones, and brain. In men, potential secondary effects may include fluid retention, acne, increased hair growth, and testicular shrinkage, which are typical. Women might experience temporary fluid retention, acne, hair growth, and vaginal spotting after hormone pellet insertion. At HMA, we offer a comprehensive skin health program to manage and address any skin changes that may arise during hormone optimization.
